In September, the seven mayors of Central and West Jutland expressed a desire for the government to introduce a green development contribution, which will honor the municipalities that are at the forefront of the green transition.
Now the proposal has the support of North Jutland’s 11 mayors, says Business Region Midwest in a press release.
According to the proposal, the development contribution must consist of a contribution of four øre per KWh of green electricity produced locally.
In North Jutland, 3.2 GWh of electricity is produced and added together with Central and West Jutland’s production of electricity, this corresponds to more than half of all green electricity produced in Denmark.
– It is only right and reasonable that the municipalities that lay land for green energy projects and thus take the lead in the green transition should also be rewarded. If we look beyond the map of Denmark, so far it is the Jutland municipalities that have been at the forefront of the green transition. If we are to continue the development that we really want, then there must also be a financial gain in the municipal coffers, says the mayor of Vesthimmerland Municipality, Per Bach Laursen.
The mayors propose that the development contribution be financed via the electricity tax, where an amount corresponding to four øre per produced kWh is reserved for the municipalities.
