There are accusations of neglect, fines for grossly improper treatment of horses and charges for violating the Animal Welfare Act.
In March, a larger number of horses from the bankrupt Viegård Stud moved into the newly established stud at Bratbjerggaard in Brovst – owned by a company with Hans Helmgaard Kristiansen as director.
And this week, Jammerbugt Municipality paid a visit to the horses in their new surroundings.
It took place on Thursday, when the conditions and the horses, previously owned by John Byrialsen, were inspected.
Report on the way
The municipality makes the visit because they are obliged to supervise commercial animal husbandry.
During the visit, they check, among other things, that there are no more animals on the property than are permitted, as well as whether feed, fertiliser, oil tank, waste and waste water are handled correctly and that there is not too much noise on the property.
And so the relationship of the animals.
Gitte Clausen, head of planning and environment in Jammerbugt Municipality, who is responsible for the inspection, cannot say what the assessment of the conditions at Bratbjerggaard sounds like.
The inspection report must first be completed and consulted with the stud for 14 days. Only then is the content published.
An extra eye on the stud
But the municipality is aware of the points of criticism that have been put forward, says Gitte Clausen.
– Before we go out, we have had a conversation with other authorities regarding what they have previously observed, so we have an extra eye on whether there is anything wrong in that regard. If there is anything to note, we hand over the information to the Danish Veterinary and Food Administration, she says.
It is also the Danish Veterinary and Food Administration that handles it if there is a need to urgently initiate measures, Gitte Clausen states.
Next week, the inspection will continue at the stud farm.
