Remember this name: NOVO NORDISK. A company founded in 1923 and headquartered in the quiet suburbs of Copenhagen. It is not in luxury, nor in oil, automobiles or artificial intelligence. Novo Nordisk is a pharmaceutical laboratory that has long remained in the shadow of “big pharma” such as Pfizer, AstraZeneca or even Sanofi, which we heard a lot regarding during the Covid.
The smart guys who had invested their savings in company shares can now rub their hands: it’s better – much better – than the Livret A account since the title of Novo Nordisk has climbed on the stock market by 238% since 2020 .

In this case an appetite suppressant, Wegovy, which is the derivative of another flagship drug of the company used to fight type 2 diabetes. Wegovy has been marketed in Denmark, Norway, in the United States, in Germany and for a few days in the United Kingdom. But not yet in France. Each time, the same scenario: we tear it off. Over the first half of the year, global sales of Wegovy jumped 344%!
So much so that the laboratory is struggling to produce enough to meet demand. Across the Channel, the company has already warned: the drug will be supplied in a “limited and controlled” way. Clearly, a cleverly maintained shortage to drive up prices.
It must be said that the market is huge. In the United States alone, 40% of adults are obese. And Britain’s health secretary has said obesity is the second most preventable cause of cancer in the country.
The benefits for Denmark are considerable
The value of the company on the stock market is the equivalent of the country’s GDP. Wegovy is Denmark’s new black gold. Exports are so strong that the trade balance surplus has soared. And foreign exchange earnings are pushing the Danish krone higher, which is starting to seriously worry the Danish central bank. We knew Denmark for the little Lego bricks, now it will be for these anti-nibbling “pen-injectors”.
