Seven-time Wimbledon champion Novak Djokovic came from behind in the first set to advance to the fourth round by beating Australian Alexei Popyrin on Saturday (6/7).
After a slow start, Djokovic recorded a 4-6, 6-3, 6-4, and 7-6 (7/3) victory over Popyrin.
In the fourth round, Djokovic will face Holger Rune following the 15th seed from Denmark defeated Frenchman Quentin Halys in a five-set battle.
“It was a very challenging match. I think it was a mental victory,” Djokovic said.
“I tried not to concentrate too much. I think I managed to do that. It was the best tie break of my career,” he continued.
Popyrin, who had never advanced beyond the second round in four appearances at Wimbledon, was on fire early in the match.
However, following winning the first set, Popyrin began to play in line with Djokovic’s rhythm, who was starting to find his playing style.
The 37-year-old Serb, who was wearing a knee brace following undergoing surgery in June, eventually won in the fourth set. (bbc/Z-1)
