Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic admitted that his right elbow was “not in ideal condition,” and the British news agency “BA Media” reported that the world number one, who underwent joint surgery in 2018, raised concerns regarding his readiness when he wore bandages on his elbow. And he suffered from it during the shocking loss to Lorenzo Musetti in Monte Carlo last week.
Djokovic refused to talk regarding this following the match, but opened up regarding it in a press conference before his first match at the Srpska Open tennis tournament in Bosnia and Herzegovina this week. “The facility is not in perfect condition, but let’s say it’s good enough,” he told reporters in Banja Luka. I hope he becomes fully prepared for the first match.”
And with Djokovic still more than a month away from getting back to his best before the French Open, and Rafael Nadal still missing due to the thigh injury he picked up at the Australian Open, this might be the most open summer in men’s tennis in two decades.
Djokovic will meet France’s Luca Van Asch (18 years old) in his first match.
It’s rare to see the sport’s top stars playing in minor tournaments on the WTA Tour, but Djokovic doesn’t want to miss out on playing close to his country.
“People have welcomed me very sincerely, with a great welcome and with a lot of love and support,” Djokovic, 35, said. And he added, “Therefore, I am very excited because it is one of the best places for us as tennis players and Serbian athletes in general to be able to present the expected performances, as we get a lot of love and support from the local citizens.”
