Novak Djokovic before participating in the French Open and in Monte-Carlo – France relaxes corona regulations

So far there was still a big question mark over the Serb’s participation in the second Grand Slam tournament of the year (May 22 – June 5).

“From Monday, March 14th, we will suspend the use of the vaccination card wherever it was previously valid,” said French Prime Minister Jean Castex to the television channel “TF1” on Thursday, explaining the decision: “The health situation is improving thanks to our joint efforts.”

As a result, in France, in addition to the obligation to provide proof of vaccination, there is also no longer a requirement to wear a mask indoors, with the exception of public transport.

The French Open begins on May 22nd, the Masters in Monte-Carlo on April 9th. This month, the 20-time Grand Slam champion will miss the Masters tournaments in Indian Wells and Miami because his vaccination status prevents him from entering the United States.

His participation in the US Open in August and September is currently still uncertain.

On the other hand, nothing stands in the way of the 34-year-old taking part in Wimbledon after the relaxation of the regulations in the United Kingdom. Djokovic missed the Australian Open in January because the government refused him entry into Melbourne.

Last year Djokovic won the French Open for the second time after 2016. With the easing in less than two weeks, Djokovic is a big step closer to defending his title in Paris.
