Derrick Bona, from the suburbs of Halifax, said he was quite surprised that Arnold Schwarzenegger, actor, bodybuilder and former governor of California, shared a tweet to offer his support for the efforts of the man, as reported by CTV News Atlantic.
“People have told me to give you encouragement, but I know you don’t need it. Go ahead, go for it, I really want to share your tweet to inspire others. I’m proud of you.”
These are the words that Schwarzenegger had in his tweet last Wednesday, following the main interested party insisted on underlining, in an original tweet, the support he had had from his relatives in his efforts.
Bona has been a chef for 23 years now. He says he’s had a love-hate relationship with food throughout his life, and had his run-ins at times.
The man’s real journey to lose weight began last January, following he fell and mightn’t get up.
“Even though others wanted to help me up, this time I was freaking out that I wouldn’t be able to do it myself,” he admitted, revealing that he had a moment of glow soon following. “It was either that I was going to keep going, or not.”
It was determination that allowed the 600-pound man to take charge. Knowing that it would not be easy, he nevertheless began to change his diet, a key element in his process.
Derrick Bona is now working with a personal trainer, and has already lost 55 pounds since the start of the year.
A dream slowly becoming reality, one day at a time.
