Notifications on macOS Ventura have several bugs

As Notifications do macOS Ventura 13 may be presenting certain problems for some users. Issues have appeared since the first beta of the system – before it was released in October 2022 – and so far Apple continues to ignore them.

Reported by Chance Miller of 9to5Mac, the issues make notifications “untrustworthy” for both Apple apps and third-party apps. Among several bugs, they are “stuck” in the upper right corner of the screen or in the Notification Center, do not emit sound when they should, appear with up to 20 minutes of delay or do not appear at all. Additionally, they can crash to the point where the app that sent the notification is forced to shut down.

Miller stated that the problem may be with the system itself — not specific apps — as he has experienced these scenarios in “nearly every app on the Mac,” including native ones like Mail and Messages or even third-party apps like Slack and Twitter.

The bugs seem to affect many other users, who have shared their stories on Reddit. Unfortunately, it looks like there’s no immediate fix — at least for now.

“Items Added in Background”

Yet another bug is affecting notifications on macOS Ventura. As reported by MacRumorsseveral users are complaining regarding being repeatedly notified regarding “Items Added in Background” or just “Starter Items”.

Notifications appear for various app processes every time the machine is started, even if the item is not enabled to start with the system. While it is possible to select/delete all Launch Items, it is not possible to have the same type of control for apps that launch in the background.

After several attempts, some users managed to get rid of such notifications by following the steps below. Care must be taken, however, when running them:

  1. Open Finder and select Go » Go for Pasta… in the menu bar.
  2. Copy and paste the following address into the input field and press return: ~/Library/LaunchAgents
  3. A Finder window will open to the LaunchAgents folder. Select the option to show items as a list sorted by name, then look for the application or developer name associated with the process causing the login item notifications.
  4. delete the file .plist and empty the Trash.
  5. Restart the Mac.
  6. If the above steps don’t work, look in the folder ~/Library/LaunchDaemons. If there is daemons files associated with the app/developer, delete those as well, empty the Trash and restart your Mac.

And you, have you come across any of these bugs? We tell you here in the comments.
