The Competition Commission of Pakistan (CCP) has issued notices to 12 cosmetics companies of the country for misleading marketing by beauty products manufacturers.
This step has been taken by CCP in an effort to protect consumers from deceptive advertising tactics.
The CCP is a regulatory agency whose primary authority and responsibility is to ensure equal competition for all sellers in the market and to protect consumers from anti-competitive practices, exploitative behavior and price fixing.

The preliminary findings of the CCP investigation showed that these companies were engaged in “greenwashing”, a process in which products are labeled as “natural, organic, sustainable, pure and chemical-free” without any scientific evidence. It is sold.
The crackdown on misleading advertising is done by the CCP in an effort to maintain fair competition in the beauty products industry and protect the interests of consumers.
According to the investigation, companies manufacturing beauty products intentionally do not publish important information about the chemical or synthetic ingredients in their products from labels and marketing communications. Instead, misleading terms, imagery, or labeling methods are used to hide the presence of inorganic ingredients or chemical additives.

Consumers often use these companies’ claims such as “100% organic,” “100% natural,” “100% pure” in addition to claims such as “Pakistan’s No. 1 Skin Care Brand,” organic and natural brand,” or “Pakistan’s best brand.” Are attracted to topics. However, there is no scientific evidence to support these claims and consumers are misled into buying products that do not meet their expectations or may even pose health risks.
Section 10 of the Competition Act 2010 prohibits misleading or deceptive marketing practices.
CCP is mandated to ensure fair market competition and protect consumers from misleading advertising tactics.
As the investigation continues, the CCP will continue to scrutinize cosmetics manufacturers’ marketing practices and take necessary action to ensure compliance with fair competition standards.
The CCP aims to promote transparency, integrity and consumer confidence in the beauty products market by holding companies accountable for deceptive advertising.
