Notice to Netflix for ‘insulting’ Madhuri Dixit

Online streaming company Netflix has been served with a legal notice for alleged derogatory comments in the drama ‘Big Bang Theory’ about Bollywood star Madhuri Dixit.

Indian political analyst Mithan Vijay Kumar has claimed that he Netflix sent a notice, asking for the removal of the first episode of season two.

Raj Kothrapalli (Kunal Nair) and Sheldon Cooper (Jim Parsons) in the drama during the said episode. Bollywood Compare actresses Aishwarya Rai and Madhuri Dixit.

Sheldon Cooper during the conversation Aishwarya Rai called ‘poor man’s Madhuri Dixit’ to which Raj Kotrapalli replied that ‘Aishwarya Rai is a goddess, compared to her Madhuri Dixit is a leprous prostitute.’

Mithun Vijay Kumar says the comments made against Madhuri Dixit are ‘repeated and derogatory’.

He wrote on Twitter, ‘Being a fan of Madhuri Dixit since childhood, I was very disturbed by this dialogue. I find it highly insulting to Indian culture and women.’

‘I asked my lawyer to send a legal notice to Netflix and request that they remove the episode from their platform. It is important that media companies are questioned on their content, and I hope Netflix India will take this matter seriously.’

Mithun Vijay Kumar said that if the episodes are not removed, legal action will be taken against the streaming company for ‘promoting gender discrimination’.

The Independent has contacted Netflix India for comment on the news. The last episode of the drama Big Bang Theory aired in May 2019.
