After bidding farewell to WordPad, the iconic word processing application built into Windows since 1995, Microsoft continues to improve Notepad. This software is even older than WordPad. He was built into all versions of Windows since 1985. However, it is far from being obsolete as it is regularly updated by Microsoft.

Notepad in Windows 11, which is hit by a new bug that you will want to keep at all costs, has just received a feature that users have been waiting for. It is automatic backup which allows you to close Notepad at any time without losing your progress. You can then resume your work where you left off.

Windows 11 Notepad automatically saves content

Microsoft announces in a press release that “ Notepad will automatically restore previously opened tabs and unsaved content and changes to those open tabs. However, the state of the saved session has no impact on your files, and you always have the choice to save or discard unsaved changes made to files each time you close a tab. ».

With this new feature, Notepad will automatically restore previously opened tabs, unsaved changes and content. You can of course choose to save or discard unsaved changes when you close a tab. This feature can be disabled in the app settings.

Note that autosaved Notepad sessions do not save to the documents themselves. They register in a temporary file. So you won’t see the autosaved content if you open the document through another text editor.

When you open the document via WordPad, the previous session is displayed and you have the choice of retain or delete content which has not yet been definitively registered. New features in the Notepad app are currently only available to members of the Insider program. They will soon be deployed.
