ID-Austria can now also be used by notaries. Digitization State Secretary Florian Tursky (ÖVP) drew attention to this possibility on Tuesday. This gives notaries the opportunity to electronically verify the identity of their clients. This is intended to avoid paths that are not absolutely necessary.
The President of the Chamber of Notaries, Michael Umfahrer, emphasized in a press release that the aim was to provide simple, efficient and useful solutions for clients. The core of notarial work remains online: nationwide provision of notarial services and individual and personal advice while maintaining the usual legal certainty.
Thanks to digitalization, notarial official acts can be used and carried out regardless of location and time. This could not only be practical, but also lead to more service and self-determination for people who are physically limited and not mobile. At the same time, this also supports climate protection and sustainability, according to the statement from the State Secretariat.
Over two million people already use the functions of ID-Austria. This also enables the driver’s license and proof of age in digital form. In addition, over 200 administrative procedures can be completed online, with a total of around 475 services available.
