Not strength: the huge gaps between Maccabi Tel Aviv and Funibage

Maccabi Tel Aviv said goodbye to the Champions League qualifiers yesterday (Wednesday) after losing 1:0 to Stiava Bucharest. Following the relegation, the Yellows will now play in the Europa League qualifiers against Ponibiz from Lithuania.

Ponibiz ranks last in the Lithuanian league after 22 rounds, and is not considered a quality team in its country. The market value of the team’s players is only 5.5 million euros, compared to 19.12 million euros the market value of the yellow squad. The total budget of the Israeli champion is also significantly higher than that of the rival.

The big star of Ponivage is striker Erringer Smith, who scored 14 goals last season and whose market value is 600 thousand euros. Two other players who lead the team are midfielders Jovan Kadjanovic from Montenegro and Nemanja Bosancic from Bosnia, each of whom has a market value of 400,000 euros. The captain of the team, Linas Kinavičius, is worth only 175 thousand euros and has 42 appearances for the Lithuanian national team.
