SECRETARY General of the Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI) Raja Juli Antoni revealed that PSI General Chair Kaesang Pangarep will not run in the 2024 regional elections.
He explained that this step was taken regardless of the results of the consultation between the Indonesian General Election Commission and the Indonesian House of Representatives in a Hearing, Monday (26/8).
“As a friend who interacts with Kaesang, the General Chair of the Indonesian Solidarity Party, almost every day, I know for sure that Kaesang is very obedient to the constitution,” said Raja Juli in a statement received in Jakarta, Saturday (24/8).
He explained that based on the internal dynamics of PSI, from the start Kaesang was not interested in running in the 2024 Pilkada. According to him, Kaesang preferred to concentrate on business and taking care of his family, especially waiting for the birth of his first child and accompanying his wife who was studying in the United States.
“However, after reading the Supreme Court’s decision on the candidate’s age, PSI internally urged Kaesang to take that constitutional space by getting involved in the 2024 Pilkada contest,” he said.
Moreover, he said, there was communication with the Advanced Indonesia Coalition (KIM) Plus which narrowed down to Kaesang’s candidacy in the Central Java Pilkada. However, he said that before leaving for the United States, Kaesang had not 100% decided to run in the 2024 Pilkada.

Meanwhile, he said that he knew that one of the PSI DPP Chairmen had ordered an administrative staff to help Kaesang take care of the administrative requirements for the regional elections.
“The management of these requirements was carried out before the Constitutional Court’s decision. All administrative processes were stopped after the Constitutional Court’s decision. PSI obeys the constitution and fully follows the Constitutional Court’s decision,” he concluded. (Ant/J-2)
