Norwegian charged with espionage released – adressa.no

– PST assesses that the conditions for further detention are no longer met. The charge is upheld, and the investigation will continue beyond the autumn, senior advisor Eirik Veum in PST tells NTB.

The man was imprisoned on 1 July and was then charged with attempted gross intelligence activities for the benefit of China.

On 30 July, the detention was extended by four weeks. Then police attorney Line Nygaard said TV 2 that the suspicion against the accused had been strengthened.

– We have carried out a number of investigative steps. This involves questioning witnesses and reviewing a large amount of data on various data carriers, Nygaard told the channel.

The Norwegian man in his 30s, accused of being a spy, was arrested at Gardermoen after a trip to China.

He has a PhD from an elite university in China. He built up a company that offered advice on international political affairs to public and private institutions.

The man did not want to give a statement, and his defender has previously said that the accused believes he has done nothing wrong.

– He has run a geopolitical centre, defender Marius Dietrichson told the channel at the end of July.
