Johannes Boe, 29, of Norwegian men’s biathlon, won four gold medals at the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing.

Boe won the men’s 15km biathlon mass start at the Beijing Olympics held at Zhangjiakou National Biathlon Center in Hebei Province, China on the 18th with a time of 38 minutes 14 seconds 4. As a result, she won gold medals in the 10km sprint, 30km relay, and 24km mixed relay, as well as the mass start, confirming her four gold medals. The silver medal went to Martin Ponsiluoma (Sweden) and the bronze medal went to Betle Christiansen (Norway), respectively.

It is the first time in 20 years since Ole Einar Bierndalen (Norway), who was called the ‘king of biathlon’, achieved four gold medals at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City. The record for the most gold medals in a single event is five gold medals set by Eric Haydn (USA) in speed skating at the Lake Placid event in 1980.

Boe participated in the Olympic Games starting in Sochi in 2014 and stood on the podium for the first time, winning one gold and two silver medals at the 2018 Pyeongchang Games. In the three world championships held following the Pyeongchang Games, he swept a total of 9 gold medals and rose to 4 gold medals in this competition and became the new emperor.

Norway, which swept 6 out of 11 gold medals in the biathlon, maintained its first place in the overall ranking with 15 gold medals in the total medal count. This is the first time a country has won more than 15 gold medals at the Winter Olympics.

In the women’s 12.5km mass start held earlier, Justin Brezza (France) took the gold medal. Norway’s Tyryl Echop won the silver medal, while Marté Roy Sierand from the same country, who was also nominated for four gold medals along with Boe, finished the competition with her three gold medals with a bronze medal.
