Norway: Slovenian hope for cross-country skiing (19) dies in a truck crash
The only 19-year-old Hana Mazi Jamnik lost her life in a tragic training accident with roller skis in Norway. Her friend says goodbye emotionally on Instagram.
She was regarded as Slovenia’s great hope for cross-country skiing and only recently made it into the A squad of the Slovenian national cross-country team. Now Hana Mazi Jamnik has been tragically taken from life. As the Norwegian TV channel TV2 reports, the 19-year-old crashed into a truck during a training session on roller skis.
According to TV2, the accident happened on Thursday near the town of Jörpeland, regarding 430 kilometers southwest of Oslo. “It happened in a small tunnel,” said police prosecutor Sveinung Andersen. The paramedics brought the seriously injured Jamnik to a nearby hospital. “Unfortunately, her life might not be saved. She was pronounced dead at the hospital,” Andersen said.
Particularly tragic: The cross-country talent was in the training camp for the first time with the senior national team to prepare for the coming season and the home World Championships in Planica.

In an Instagram post, he writes: “We planned our lives and wanted to be together until the end. I will miss your hugs and the fun things we did together.” He will stop philosophizing regarding cross-country skiing and life in general, he continues. He ends the post with the words: “I love you.”
The exact circumstances of the accident are not yet known. The driver was checked by the police and a blood sample was taken from him. He had to give up his driver’s license. A complaint was filed once morest him. The truck driver’s lawyer told Stavanger Aftenblad that his client had pleaded innocent. He thinks of the deceased athlete, he’s not doing well.
