Northern Pacific Airways has not yet operated a single flight, but has already built the lounge at the future Anchorage hub. It will be a while before the first travelers check in.

In terms of area, Alaska is by far the largest state in the United States. The gigantic area in the northwest used to be a Russian colony. In 1867, the Tsarist Empire sold the area to the United States for a bargain price. Even today, only around 800,000 people live there on an area of 1.7 million square kilometers.

However, due to its geographic location between North America and Asia, Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport is a major cargo airport. In the mid-2000s, the capital’s airport was even the third largest cargo airport in the world on several occasions. Northern Pacific Airways also wants to benefit from the situation.

Cinema as a highlight of the lounge

The new low-cost airline has chosen Anchorage Airport as its hub. With a stopover in Alaska, travelers will in future fly from Los Angeles, San Francisco, Las Vegas, New York and Orlando to Asian destinations such as Tokyo or Seoul. The management plans with a future fleet of six Boeing 757-200.

Northern Pacific Airways has not yet started. Nevertheless, the airline has already had a chic lounge built at its hub. She has invested a total of around six million dollars in the renovation of the North Terminal, from where her Boeing 757s will one day take off. The core is the Navigators Club. It offers space for around 50 people. The highlight of the lounge in Anchorage, along with the buffet, seating, and bar, is a 40-seat mini-movie theater like this architecture office writes regarding the project.

Start of flights postponed several times

It will probably be some time before the first travelers use the exclusive lounge. The new American airline actually wanted to start operations in the spring. In March it was said that the first flight was planned for June 2nd. This appointment was also torn.

According to the current status, the airline wants to start on July 14th. Contrary to what was initially planned, the first flights will not start in Anchorage. Flights between Ontario in California and Las Vegas can currently be booked. Northern Pacific does not intend to start flights to Asia via Anchorage until next year. Until then, the lounge will remain empty.
