Northern Irish Actor Ray Stevenson Dies at 58 While Filming in Italy: Hollywood Mourns Loss of the Marvel Star and HBO’s Rome Icon

The Northern Irish comedian had recently been hospitalized following an illness while shooting the film in Italy.

The Northern Irish actor Ray Stevenson who notably starred in the film RRRto the saga Thor and in the upcoming Star Wars series, Ahsokadied this Sunday at the age of 58, his agent announced to the media The Hollywood Reporter.

As reported by the Italian newspaper The Republicthe comedian had recently been hospitalized following an illness while filming the film Cassino on Ischia of Frank Ciota on the island of Ischia in Italy.

Since the announcement of his death, many film personalities such as the director of RRRSS Rajamouli, paid tribute to Ray Stevenson “I can’t believe it. Ray brought so much energy and drive to the film sets. It was contagious” wrote the filmmaker on Twitter.

“Working with him was pure happiness. My prayers go out to his family. May his soul rest in peace,” he continues.

Star of the small and big screen

Born in Lisburn, Northern Ireland, in 1964, Ray Stevenson made his film debut in the 90s and appeared notably in films Vol 93 by Paul Greengrass and King Arthur d’Antoine Fuqua.

But it’s his character Titus Pullo in the HBO series Rome which will propel him to the front of the stage. This role opens the doors to the Marvel saga Thor where he plays Volstagg alongside Chris Hemsworth. Ray Stevenson also starred in The Punisher: War Zone, Vikings or Dexter.

Recently, the actor appeared in the film RRR – directed by SS Rajamouli and awarded the Oscar for best original song – and will soon be on view in the new Star Wars series, Ahsokaexpected in August 2023 on Disney+.
