North Korea shows off ballistic missiles during military parade

Parade A large-scale ceremony was held in Pyongyang on the evening of July 27 to mark the 70th anniversary of the signing of the armistice that ended the Korean War, which the country calls “Victory Day”. North Korean leader Kim Jong-un and high-ranking delegations from Russia and China attended this event.

North Korea’s latest Hwasong-17 and Hwasong-18 intercontinental ballistic missiles appeared during the parade, according to the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA).

KCNA reported that the event also featured a new type of reconnaissance and attack drones.

“The newly developed and manufactured multi-purpose strategic reconnaissance and strike drone flew a demonstration in the sky over Kim Il-sung Square, doubling the people’s joy during the celebration,” KCNA reported.

According to the North Korean news agency, “the audience’s excitement and joy increased” as the latest solid-fuel ICBM Hwasong-18 paraded through the square.

Satellite images confirmed that North Korea held a large-scale military parade in celebration of yesterday.

To commemorate this event, North Korea invited senior Russian and Chinese officials to Pyongyang. The Russian delegation was led by Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu, while the Chinese delegation was led by Politburo member and National Assembly Vice Chairman Li Hongzhong.

These are the first foreign delegations to be welcomed by North Korea following imposing strict travel restrictions in response to the Covid-19 pandemic from early 2020.

Minister Shoigu arrived in Pyongyang on July 25 for a three-day visit. On July 26, he had a meeting with North Korean Defense Minister Kang Sun-nam and met with Kim Jong-un.

During the meeting, Mr. Kim and Mr. Shoigu discussed national defense and security issues in “an intimate atmosphere filled with friendship” and “reached a consensus of opinion”, according to the news agency. KCNA.

Shoigu also handed Kim a letter from Russian President Vladimir Putin.

KCNA said the meeting was an occasion to further strengthen the bilateral relationship in the context of “always changing regional and international security environment”.
