North Kivu: more than 700 deaths recorded as a result of malaria in 2021

The vice-governor of North Kivu province, the divisional commissioner Ekuka Lipopo, revealed that more than one million cases of malaria, including 781 deaths, were recorded in 2021 in North Kivu.

He announced this Tuesday, June 28 in Goma during the launch of the campaign for the free distribution of mosquito nets impregnated by the provincial coordination of the National Program for the Fight once morest Malaria (PNLP).

According to the Provincial Division Head of the PNLP, Dr Janvier Kubuya, malaria remains a major public health problem in North Kivu.

He also calls on the population to become aware of the existence of this endemic disease, which, according to him, is even the primary cause of morbidity in the provinces.

About six million insecticide-treated mosquito nets will be distributed free of charge to more than 1.8 million households across the province.

This mosquito net distribution campaign, which will last seven days, is financed by the Global Fund.
