Los Angeles (USA), July 2. The North Carolina Courage, with their 1-0 victory against the Houston Dash, placed themselves this weekend as leaders of the NWSL, the professional women’s soccer league in the United States.
A great goal from Tyler Lussi allowed the Courage to overtake the Portland Thorns, who had come into this day in the lead but lost their privileged position when they fell 0-1 against the Kansas City Current with a penalty from Michelle Cooper.
The Courage now have 26 points, one more than the Thorns.
In third place are the OL Reign, who drew at home 2-2 against Racing Louisville.
Wang Shuang from eleven meters and Paige Monaghan made it 0-2 for Louisville with only fifteen minutes left, but the OL Reign reacted fantastically with a goal from Veronica Latsko in minute 82 and another from Elyse Bennett in the 87, both of head.
In Chicago, the Red Stars defeated the San Diego Wave 1-0 thanks to a goal from Ella Stevens while the Orlando Pride signed the biggest result of the weekend with a 0-3 against the Washington Spirit (a double of Julie Doyle and own goal by Tara McKeown).
Finally, Gotham FC and Angel City shared the points without goals.
The NWSL will not have numerous international players these weeks who are concentrated with their respective teams for the FIFA World Cup, which takes place from July 20 in Australia and New Zealand. EFE
