Norris Wins Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, Secures McLaren Constructors’ Title

Norris Wins Title for McLaren in Abu Dhabi Season Finale

McLaren secured its first constructors’ championship title since 1998 as Lando Norris triumphed in the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, his fourth career victory and the team’s sixth win of the season.

While Australian teammate Oscar Piastri played a critical role in the team’s championship journey, ultimately finishing outside the points in tenth, Norris pulled off a strategy masterpiece, keeping the Ferraris of Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz at bay.
The win meant McLaren clinched the ninth constructors’ titles in its history, moving them up to second on the all-time wins list behind Ferrari (16) and ahead of the struggling Williams, their British rival.

Norris’s Calculated Drive

Norris bolted off the starting grid flawlessly, securing the lead, setting the stage for a tense but masterful performance. Though Ferrari crammed up with both their cars starting at the back of the grid after penalties, Norris efficiently defended against the recovering Ferraris.

In a thrilling race, he crossed the finish line 5.832 seconds ahead of Sainz, triggering raucous celebrations for the team.

“It feels incredible, not for myself but for the whole team,” said the 25-year-old. “I am incredibly proud of the journey we have been on. It was not easy. 26 years is a long time. To celebrate the constructor’s title, we are going to party hard – drunk with Zak Brown!”

He added: “It’s a historic day for the team.”

Heartache for Ferrari

It wasn’t retrospective

Ferrari could not pull off the team’s victory needed to seize the championship.

Despite starting from the back of the grid, Leclerc fought back with vengence but was only able to take third place earning an additional 15 points, scoring the team just enough to clinch second place.

For Ferrari, the recovery drive from Leclerc wasn’t enough. Ultimately the team fell 14 points behind McLaren, with Leclerc ending the season third, finishing 18 points behind Norris. Of note, the 2022 runner-up Leclerc often struggled for consistency.

We got the maximum out of it today, it hurts, said Leclerc;
