The large-scale water outage started on the morning of this morning when the outflow valve that sent purified water to the reservoir at the Deoknam Water Purification Plant in Gwangju did not open, causing water to overflow in the reservoir and insufficient water in the reservoir.

The city requested that 1,980 boxes of emergency bottled water (1.8L of Bityeoul water) be supplied to areas with low water supply and promptly shut off water tank valves in places where there is a lot of tap water usage, such as apartments, schools, and hospitals, to prevent rust from entering.
Gwangju Mayor Kang Ki-jeong visited the site of the Deoknam Water Purification Plant on the same day, ordered the preparation of measures to minimize civil inconvenience, and launched an all-out response through a disaster safety meeting.
An official from Gwangju City said, “It seems that clear water will be supplied following midnight, but temporarily cloudy water may come out.”
