Norland calls for identifying the candidates for the presidential elections and rejects any electoral process that increases division

The US ambassador to Libya, Richard Norland, said that his country rejects any electoral process that leads to instability in Libya

In an interview with Al-Arabiya Al-Hadath channel, Norland stressed the need to resolve the controversy over the identity of the candidates for the presidential elections, as it was the reason for postponing the last elections, he said.

Norland pointed to the presence of controversial figures in the political scene, saying that the Libyans must decide their position regarding the candidates for the elections.

On the conduct of the electoral process, Norland explained that the political agreement is an important part of the electoral process, calling for the necessity of expelling mercenaries to resolve this issue.

Norland affirmed support for the efforts of the UN envoy to Libya, Abdullah Batili, to reach the 2023 elections, commenting on the security situation that prevented the reopening of the US embassy in Libya due to its connection to the situation.
