Ski jumper Katharina Althaus won bronze in the individual large hill at the World Championships in Planica.
With 245.9 points, the girl from Oberstdorf was only beaten by the new world champion Alexandria Loutitt from Canada (134.5 m/136.5 m/264.4 points) and the defending champion Maren Lundby from Norway (139.5 m/133.0 m /254.0) defeated.
For Althaus it was her fourth medal in her fourth competition of the title fights in Slovenia. However, the feat of four gold medals for Germany at a World Cup is reserved for combined athlete Johannes Rydzek, who won in Lahti in 2017.

World Championships in Planica: Brilliant half-time record thanks to the ski jumpers
UPDATE 02/27/2023 AT 11:59 AM
Althaus is the most successful ski jumper in history with seven world championship gold medals, one silver and one bronze medal and is only one world championship title behind Thomas Morgenstern of Austria (8/2/1) in the all-time list of the best skiers.
Althaus is very happy
“I’m just really happy,” she said in an interview Eurosport:
“I’ve already noticed that the pressure increases with three gold medals in my luggage. I was very nervous and I’m just happy that I mastered it so well and took another medal with me.”
“I wanted to give everything once more and show that I also belong on the podium on the big hill,” Althaus continued: “Now we’ll definitely be celebrating.”
“Great respect” for medal collector Althaus
“Congratulations to Katha, unbelievable. To show such jumps in these conditions today and to be third – great respect,” said national coach Maximilian Mechler on “ARD”: “That was incredibly strong of her.”
Althaus makes fourth World Cup medal clear – the leap to bronze
The competition was characterized in the first run by constant changes in inrun length. Althaus had difficult conditions but kept his nerve. “I just stayed with myself. I thought to myself: It comes as it comes and I’m just trying to make the best of it – I’ve done that,” she said.

Lundby reaches into the snow with impunity
In addition, Lundby, who later won the silver medal, was lucky: the defending champion jumped the hill record length of 139.5 meters into the snow with favorable updraft conditions.
The judges gave deductions for the landing without telemark, but apparently did not see the snow contact.
Schmitt sees it: Lundby grabs the hill record in the snow
“She’s got her hand in the snow and the judges didn’t judge that,” he said EurosportExpert Martin Schmitt: “She was very lucky.”
Loutitt first ski jumping world champion from Canada
Loutitt, “only” 16 in the overall World Cup, won her first World Cup competition in Zao, Japan, in January. She is the first ski jumping World Championships medalist from Canada.
“It was a great final, fantastic. She jumps a great season. She became Junior World Champion, won her first World Cup competition and is now winning her first World Championship gold here on her ‘home hill’,” said Schmitt Eurosport. The Canadians are stationed in Planica in Europe during the winter.
