Russia’s state-owned natural gas company Gazprom said it would not be able to resume operations on its Nord Stream pipeline, which supplies gas to Europe, as originally planned. He said he found a new technical problem.
Nord Stream has been out of service for maintenance inspections, but was scheduled to be restored on the 3rd.
The postponement of the resumption of operations will be a major blow to Europe, which has been rushing to raise its gas storage rate before winter. Europe has been plagued for weeks over what Russia’s next move in the energy war will be.
In a statement late Wednesday, Gazprom said it had found an oil leak in a gas turbine that sends gas to a pipeline and said the problem needed to be fixed before it might restart. I didn’t mention how long the repair would take.
