Non-Functional Fixed Radars: The Issue of Missing Warning Signs

2023-09-01 06:10:00

The Region recently offered radars to the municipalities of Chastre, Court-Saint-Etienne, Villers-la-Ville, Walhain and Mont-Saint-Guibert. So far, no problem: only these radars are not effective and do not flash anyone.

The reason is very simple: if no flash comes out of the boxes, it is because there are simply no signs upstream, which is mandatory. “We installed several poles, and some radars, which we invert“, explains Thierry Champagne, mayor of the municipality of Chastre. “What gets stuck here is that the municipal speed cameras cannot flash, because there are no signs that warn that there is a speed camera.“.

The problem has been going on for a while now. “We’ve been waiting for a while, six months I’ll say“, he specifies.

I avoid saying it too loud

On the side of the inhabitants, we are very happy with the installation of these radars… but we remain suspicious. “I’m glad it’s installed. My house is along a straight line where some sometimes drove like crazy. Since the installation, we see that the speeds decrease. Now, if motorists learn that they don’t flash… I find that surprising. He has to do his job“, explains Bernard.

Same story with José, another resident. “Indeed, people drive more slowly now. Now I learned that it was not functional… but I avoid saying it too loudly!“he laughs.
