Is it OK to have a non-alcoholic beer before driving? Non-alcoholic or non-alcoholic beers are very popular these days. This is because there is no (or low) alcohol content, so you can feel refreshed without getting drunk. However, if you want to feel like drinking while limiting alcohol, you should choose non-alcoholic beer with 0% alcohol content, not non-alcoholic beer.

According to the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety, these drinks are divided into two types: alcohol-free and non-alcohol. What is the difference between the two drinks?

Non-alcoholic beer is literally a product that has no alcohol added. It is made by adding hops and flavor to malt extract without fermentation. Non-alcoholic beer has an alcohol content of less than 1%. Alcohol is removed following beer is made through fermentation and maturation, or it is fermented with yeast that does not produce alcohol. Non-alcoholic beer can contain 0.01% or 0.05% alcohol, so children and teenagers cannot buy it. Pregnant women should also avoid it. If you are unable to drink alcohol, look carefully at the no-alcohol and non-alcohol labels before purchasing.

Both drinks are expressed as beer, so it is easy to mistake them for alcohol. According to the ‘labeling standards for food, etc.’, ‘non-alcohol (for adults)’, ‘no alcohol added (for adults)’, ‘non-alcohol (containing less than 1% ethanol, for adults)’, etc. should be labeled. According to the Liquor Tax Act, alcoholic beverages are products with an alcohol content of 1% or more. Existing beer has an alcohol content of 4-5%, so the food type cannot be labeled as a beverage.

Drinking too much non-alcoholic or non-alcoholic beer can have adverse health effects. It has a lower alcohol content than regular beer, but it contains a small amount of alcohol, so it can put strain on the liver. If you need to manage your blood sugar, you need to look at the sugar content as well. Calories are low, usually 60 to 70 Kcal per can (330 ml) of non-alcoholic beer. Although it varies from product to product, it contains regarding 4 to 5 grams of sugar. If you drink 3 or 4 bottles because the calories are low, it is easy to exceed the daily recommended amount of sugar. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), you should eat less than 25 grams of sugar per day.
