The Nokia brand arrives on a range of portable PCs for the MWC 2022 which is preparing. The license was obtained by the young French Off Global.
For several years, the Nokia brand has offered manufacturers to recover its name as a license to develop new products. It is a model that we have already known with other big names in tech such as Philips or BlackBerry. Nokia has notably partnered with the manufacturer HMD Global in Finland for the design and distribution of Nokia Android smartphones.
For the arrival of Nokia laptops, it’s not HMD Global that takes care of it, but Off Global, a young French company.
French company, international team
Frandroid was able to discuss with the Off Global teams before the presentation of the first laptops. Located in Lyon, the company currently has regarding fifteen employees in France, but also a second team of regarding fifteen people in Thailand. It works with Nokia, which has a design team in San Francisco to ensure consistency in the use of the Nokia brand with other devices.
Please note, the laptops designed by Off Global will be produced in China, like the rest of the world’s production on the market. The company readily admits this and says it works with ODM partners and a team in China to ensure large-scale production of its products.
When we are told this kind of structures, we can always fear a simple marketing operation involving the purchase of machines already designed in China in white label on which we would only have to stick the Nokia brand. Off Global promised us that this was not the case and that the PCs were well designed by the young company, without going through a catalog.
Because it is not a question of launching Nokia laptops in France only, but in the whole world. Twenty-two territories are concerned. Among the absentees, there is in particular India where the firm did not obtain the Nokia license, already owned by the local distribution giant Flipkart.
Soft launch
Off Global is taking advantage of MWC 2022 to unveil the first Nokia PureBook Pro PCs which will be marketed in France and elsewhere in 2022. Distribution will be primarily online at first, but the brand should, one imagines, quickly sign with big traders like Amazon or La Fnac.
The company promises to unveil more Nokia machines in 2022.
