A Nokia, a brand owned by HMD Global, may soon enter the refurbished cell phone segment by starting to sell these handset models as the company’s new sustainability strategy. This information was announced by the Finnish manufacturer itself, which should reinforce its initiatives in favor of the environment in the coming months.

Refurbished smartphones are used products that have had an internal component replaced by another, such as the battery or the screen, for example, being in perfect conditions of use. The release does not reveal details regarding how the refurbished cell phone program will work in terms of service availability, pricing and warranty.

HMD Global reinforces that this is not the only initiative adopted by Nokia that directly benefits the environmentsince a recent report by the company confirms the planting of 418,000 tree seedlings so far thanks to a partnership signed with Ecology, a company in the field of sustainability, to offset carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions.

This and other Nokia programs resulted in prizes for the company, such as the Ecovardis Platinum Award 2023, a trophy given to the brands that stood out the most in terms of sustainability through green practices. For the future, HMD plans to donate some used phones to charities so they don’t end up in a landfill.

In Brazil, there are some retail chains that work with refurbished cell phones. These devices are indicated for consumers who value cost-effectiveness and want to pay cheaply for a used cell phone.
