How did you get started?
Noham Edje: I’m 25 years old, I grew up in Besançon and I came to Paris five years ago to work in cinema. When I was little, my mother enrolled me in a theater class because I was a stutterer.

You can’t hear it at all.
It’s because I’ve worked a lot and I feel confident. My mother put me in a theater class because she had heard the politician François Bayrou say that he had done the same thing when he was little. I didn’t stay there long and I stopped stuttering around 20 years old. Before, I just mightn’t speak.

How did you get started?
I found a maid’s room in number 8e, I worked as a waiter in restaurants and I got fired all the time because I wasn’t serious enough. On Facebook, I looked for castings for short and feature films and spent hours there. I spent two months in a really bad school, I went through the 1000 Visages association, and I joined the Bobigny national school. But I absolutely wanted to shoot and following nine tries, I got a role in The Almond Trees.

How was filming with Valeria Bruni-Tedeschi, who seems to have unconventional methods?
From the start, I understood that I was made for this, I had a revelation, I was finally in my place. Valeria gave me so much, she gave me, and the other actors, immense love, she unlocked us, she brought us freedom. She also taught me to love myself. She opened a door for me and I entered this profession. I also understood that I was a product. I am a trader of myself and I want to do great things.

We also saw you in the series Bardot where you played Jean-Louis Trintignant.
I had this chance, it was incredible. I love Christopher Thompson and his mother, Danièle. I worked a lot on my diction, I watched lots of films with Trintignant, interviews. The first day I start playing and Christopher tells me he doesn’t want that, he wants something more modern. I was disgusted (laughs).

Does he look like you?
Probably. Like him, I want to go quickly. But William makes serious mistakes and gets reprimanded badly.

How long did you tour for?
I had 62 days of filming out of 80, it’s huge. I trained quite a bit. Thanks to Clément Godart, a former cop, I went to 36 quai des Orfèvres, I trained with police officers, I shot at Maratier (company specializing in weapon rental, editor’s note)…As I do a lot of combat sports, everything went well during my fighting scenes with my choreographers/stuntmen.

And Booba?
I had never met him before, and I discovered a very nice person, he talks to everyone, we discussed lots of things. He’s not the star at all. And in front of a camera, he is very charismatic. We understand why he has been this rap star for twenty years.

Did he force you to listen to his music?
I love rap, I listen to a lot of it, but… Ninho remains the one I listen to over and over once more!
