Graham Potter, Chelsea manager, has approached the media regarding the pressures of his work at Stamford Bridge.
Potter took over in September 2022, and has had a disappointing run of results since then, dropping Chelsea to 10th in the Premier League table.
“If you go to work and people insult you, it’s not going to be nice, and also if you’re being called the worst person in the club’s history,” Potter said.
And the 47-year-old continued, “You can ask my family what life has become for us. It is not beautiful anymore.”
Potter dismissed claims he didn’t care regarding Chelsea fans’ discontent with him, explaining, “Everyone cares what people think of them. We’re programmed to be social beings. I want to succeed here. There’s bullshit that I don’t care, and my response to that would be, ‘Where’s your evidence?’ Should I not?'”
And the former left-back continued, “As much support as I get, I’ve received some unkind emails that have threatened to kill me and my children. It’s clearly not nice.”
On the level of priority that should be given to the mental health of technical managers, Potter commented, “There is a logic to this, but I think that one must be careful, because the world is difficult for everyone.”
“We are going through an energy crisis, a cost of living crisis. People go on strike every two weeks. No one wants to hear a manager complain from the Premier League,” the former England international explained.
Potter, on the other hand, expressed his understanding of the fans’ point of view.
“I understand,” he said. “The fans go home and are upset regarding their team’s inability to win.”
