Nobel laureate’s daughter was abused by her stepfather, mother remained silent – World

The daughter of Nobel Prize-winning Canadian author Alice Munro has revealed that her stepfather abused her and that her mother knew it and never left her husband.

Alice Munro won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 2013 and died in May at the age of 92. Andrea Robin Skinner wrote in the Toronto Star that she was 9 years old in 1976 when her mother (Alice Munro) was not home and her stepfather, Gerald Fremlin, abused her.

Andrea wrote that Gerald Fremlin died in 2013. He liked the little girls of the area and kept talking regarding them. At the same time, he used to talk harshly to Andrea regarding her mother’s private life.

Andrea further wrote that when she turned 25, she told all this to her mother, but still her mother did not prefer to leave her husband. After Andrea’s father died, Alice Munro married Gerald Fremlin in the 1970s.

At the same time, Andrea wanted this story to be included in the stories people tell regarding her mother.

Munroe’s Books, founded by Alice Munro, said in a statement that it stands in solidarity with Andrea Skinner for sharing the truth regarding sexual abuse.
