As my colleague Marc-Olivier Cook pointed out earlier this followingnoon, the Canadian cut Filip Mesar from his camp. The Slovak will join the Laval Rocket, therefore.
Even if he had an excellent camp, one might suspect it since the places are limited in attack. But hey, that’s not what I want to talk to you regarding right now. Anyway, Marc-Olivier has analyzed his situation very well.
The Canucks also made several cuts. Of the lot, we can find the name of Noah Juulsen, who probably did not impress the management of Vancouver. He is therefore given up on waivers. This is another disappointment for the former choice of the first round of CH in 2015.

None of yesterday’s tossed around were claimed, by the way…
After playing the last two seasons away from Montreal, the right-handed defenseman hasn’t played much in the NHL. In 2020-2021, he played two games in Florida and last year he played eight in Vancouver. In those eight games, he had two assists but maintained a minus-4 rating.
At 25, time is running out for her. As I mentioned this morning, it takes longer to develop a defenseman, but Juulsen is not new to professional hockey. From his draft year, he made the leap to the pros.
Signed for this year, at minimum wage, this may be his last chance season. He will start the season with the Abbotsford Canucks in the AHL (unless claimed on waivers). He will have to have a good season if he wants to shop for a good contract for the next season. Last year, there, he did not do badly, he who knew (from afar) the best season of his career. It remains to be seen whether it will be able to remain constant. Consistency is really the key for a young defender and by the same token, Word of the Day.
At the Canadiens, Alex Belzile, Anthony Richard and Mitchell Stephens have all been cut. Unlike Mesar, the three forwards will go through waivers. They will most likely not be claimed, but it’s still important to note.
Richard had a good camp. Used on the fourth line especially, he played very honestly. Obviously, it is certain that he would not have made the team, but he left a good business card. If he is not claimed on waivers, he will be an important player at the Rocket. For Belzile, he will also have an important role down below. With the loss of Xavier Ouellet, will he be named captain?
The Quebecer and Stephens played two preseason games each. They didn’t score a point and didn’t necessarily steal the show. Either way, as my colleagues and I have often mentioned in the past few days, there’s simply no room to be won on the offensive top-12.
