The game in the 19th round of the Bundesliga was characterized by midfield banter and few chances to score for a long time before Altach took over from the middle of the second half and Atdhe Nuhiu had two promising opportunities (69th, 79th) to win skipped.
The Vorarlbergers were unsuccessful in the sixth game in a row and have been waiting for their own goal for four games. The point win only helped Altach in the relegation battle to a limited extent, as tenth they were initially two points ahead of bottom Ried. The WSG takes a lead of four points over the seventh-placed Klagenfurt in the last three rounds before the points are shared and is on course for the championship round in fifth place.
Altach coach Miroslav Klose made two changes to his starting XI following the 3-0 defeat at Rapid. Top scorer Nuhiu started once more in the center of the attack, Felix Strauss started on the right in the back three. At the WSG, Justin Forst joined Tim Prica in the attack instead of the injured Thomas Sabitzer (cheekbone fracture). In midfield, Julius Ertlthaler replaced Bror Blume from Denmark, who tore a ligament in his ankle during final training. Valentino Müller also moved back into the first eleven.
The duel in the west began with both teams being frisked, and there weren’t any significant chances to score for a long time. The Altacher, who set the tone slightly, booked the first promising opportunity in the person of Mike-Steven Bähre. The German dribbled through the Tyrolean defence, but his shot flew over the box (19′). After almost half an hour, the ball wriggled in the net for the first time. After a free-kick cross, WSG goalie Ferdinand Oswald was able to pass a header from Lukas Jäger, and Bähre scored the follow-up shot in the goal, but was offside (29′).
Forst’s goal was also disallowed on the other side because it was supposed to have been handball (39′). For the most part, however, the first half was characterized by midfield banter, the statistics reported only one shot on goal. As a result, it went into the dressing room without a hit, and a chance from Emanuel Schreiner didn’t change that (45+3.).
The second part of the game was initially similar to the first. The game offered an extremely manageable level with a lack of scoring opportunities. A half-chance for the guests resulted from a sharp free-kick from substitute Denis Tomic, Altach goalie Andreas Jungdal punched the ball out of the danger zone (55′). In the 69th minute, Nuhiu, who had previously signed off, found the best opportunity in the game up to that point. After a cross from David Herold, the Kosovar headed the goal a little too centrally from close range, but Oswald was able to prevent the impact thanks to a strong reflex.
This action initiated a dominant final phase of Vorarlberg. After a nice combination, a cross found Nuhiu once more, who put the ball just over the left cross corner from a promising position (79th). Despite the superiority, Vorarlberg failed to create further clear chances. Symbolic of WSG’s offensive performance was the fact that the Tyroleans only got their first shot on goal in the 87th minute through Forst, which, however, was much too harmless.
