It was a big anniversary: For the 100th time, the Vorarlberg handball clubs Hard and Bregenz faced each other in the top division on Saturday evening. There was no winner in the exciting match – the final result was 23:23. Both teams are already in the playoffs.

The 100th Ländle derby in the top division of Austrian handball took place in the sold-out Halle am See in Hard on Saturday evening. The guests from Bregenz were able to take a 14:10 lead at half-time. After the break, the Harder hosts managed to make a comeback. The game remained exciting throughout the second half and ended with a 23:23.
Die Harder – currently fourth in the table – really wanted to win in order to get into the top three – and then be able to choose their opponents in the quarter-finals. The seventh-placed Bregenzers can no longer do that, but a game once morest their local rivals basically motivates all forces. For Bregenz captain Lukas Breakfast it was “a hard-fought game with a fair draw”.
Eleventh draw in the derby record
It is the eleventh draw in the now 100 Ländle derbies. The winning statistics are clearly led by Bregenz: Bregenz Handball has a total of 50 derby victories, and Hard has won 39 times. It is a perpetual duel of prestige, has its own laws and inspires players and fans alike.
In the almost 25-year history of the Handball Ligen Austria, no other duel took place more often than the Ländle derby between the two neighboring towns of Hard and Bregenz. The two teams are also the only teams to have faced each other every season without interruption since the league’s inception.
