“There was no way out”, explains Paolo Sottocorona in his weather forecast for Wednesday 1st May. Well, the arrival of bad weather on the day of the holiday was predicted but how long will it last? The disturbance arrived from the west, making itself felt especially in the north and centre: “There is already some rain”, explains the meteorologist on Tg La7. Precipitation will also affect large areas in the south, such as the intense phenomena expected on the Gargano. Between Veneto and Emilia Romagna there might be less rain, but “in the north-west areas, Piedmont and Valle d’Aosta, we are talking regarding exceptionally heavy rainfall, and this also partly applies to the north-east, Liguria, Tuscany”.
On Thursday 2 May there is some improvement in the south, on the lower Adriatic side. But the phenomena will continue in the central Tyrrhenian areas, explains Sottocorona. “There are 48 hours of rather intense bad weather”, summarizes the expert who predicts “a certain attenuation for Friday 3 May, because in the north and center there will still be some rain but less intense”. In short, “it takes three days” to get out of it.
