No to the sale of public land in Viedma

On 1/9/23 the Deliberative Council of Viedma approved in the first round, the Ord. Expt. 2066/s/2023, to sell three fiscal reserves and a green space for consideration. The project was presented by the executive, and was discussed and voted on quickly, without giving notice or participation to the population or the advisory commissions (in which professional associations, neighborhood councils, etc. participate).

In general terms, the Ordinance is debatable in that it does not provide a clear destination for the funds, vaguely mentioning that it is for “capital goods.” Since there is no specific objective of urban improvement, there is no determination of a budget necessary to obtain a certain goal, and therefore there is no justification that the sale of those lots is really necessary (neither in quantity nor quality).

And then, analyzing the sale of each particular plot, different types of undesirable urban situations would be generated for the harmonious development of those neighborhoods.

The sale of a Green Space is UNACCEPTABLE. The Organic Charter indicates the duty of citizens to “respect, preserve and defend the territory, public spaces and property of the municipal State”, and the right to enjoy a healthy environment. On the other hand, it clearly establishes that the needs of present generations must be “satisfied without compromising the possibilities of future generations.” Well, selling public land is eliminating these possibilities.

There might be many more arguments, but these fundamental questions challenge all citizens, not only local, but on planet Earth.

I ask citizens and the media to speak out once morest these initiatives, presenting their notes of disapproval to the Council.
