The PlayStation VR2 Catalog will bear the big responsibility for the success of PSVR2… or not. Players who have already had a PlayStation VR are already convinced that VR can bring something to Video Games. But if Sony wants to seduce the mass of PS5 players, it certainly won’t be with a multitude of Quest 2 Standalone games that render NOTHING on a Youtube video and which can, on the contrary, discourage PS5 players from acquiring a PlayStation VR2 headset. Because, we are reminded once more and once more, if PS5 players wanted to play Quest Standalone games, they would buy a standalone Quest 2, it is cheaper and has no wires… To reach this majority of PS5 players, Sony will have to speak to them with strong licenses, which the general public knows.
What will this media lynching of the PSVR2 be worth then if one day, PlayStation decides to send heavy with solid licenses like God of War, Spiderman, Wolverine, Ratchet & Clank, The Last Of Us Faction, WipEout, an AstroBot or an Uncharted?
One thing is sure, if Sony has this kind of cartridges in its pockets, it’s clearly not the right time, between April and August 2023, to pull them. It would be much wiser to send heavy from the month of September to manage to slip the PSVR2 under the tree for the end of year celebrations! It is with the support of large cartridges that sales of the PSVR2 will take off. For the moment, the PSVR2 only offers Horizon Call of The Mountain, Gran Turismo 7, Resident Evil 8 and The Walking Dead Saints & Sinners 2 Retribution to hope to reach the mass of PS5 players, the hidden face of the Iceberg.
Is it possible to affirm today a “Bitter failure”, a “Bide”, a “Fiasco” or a “Disaster” of the PlayStation VR2? No ! Clearly NO! These cardboard journalists no doubt have other interests in doing so, but 1 month before the launch, it’s probably not only very premature but in addition, it looks a bit like they’re selling the bear’s skin before having killed him there… They execute the 3L rule to the letter: We lick, we release and we lynch!
After a full year of marketing, we will probably be able to see a little more clearly. For the moment all this is rather nauseating… Who cares regarding the Metaverse for the moment, it will happen when the time is right!
The PS Vita was sold at a loss, so even with 17 million copies sold, it was probably a worse deal for Sony than a PSVR or a PSVR2 which were profitable from the first day of marketing…
For us, the PlayStation VR2 is, right now, in a pre-launch phase. The actual launch is expected from September! A curve can very easily change course with a little communication from Sony and above all very good games!
