The ruling and opposition parties, who fought over the cause of the ‘heating cost bomb’ this winter, are showing mixed positions in the solution.

The ruling party dismissed the Democratic Party’s request for a supplementary budget as nonsense, but the opposition party emphasized that it is time to devise special measures, not tinkering policies.

Although there is a cost increase as a cause of the ‘heating cost surge’ this winter, the ruling party diagnosed that it was the result of the Moon Jae-in administration not raising gas prices due to energy populism.

The Democratic Party’s request for a supplementary budget was dismissed as nonsense.

It was not enough to give the people more than 1,000 trillion won in debt by irresponsibly running state affairs for five years, and they strongly criticized it as ‘fiscal addiction’ to spread money once more.

<주호영 / 국민의힘 원내대표> “During the 5 years in office, the national debt increased by 407 trillion won. If the Democratic Party has a sense of responsibility and conscience, it should not insist on resolving its finances by borrowing once more…”

The ruling party said that the party government was preparing various measures to ease the burden on the common people, and doubted whether the supplementary budget was intended to turn the attention of CEO Lee Jae-myung on judicial risks.

On the other hand, the Democratic Party criticized that the government’s proposal to pay additional heating bills to some vulnerable groups was appreciable, but it was not enough as a ‘tinkering policy’.

He urged to hasten discussions on the payment of energy price subsidies of 7.2 trillion won, saying that special measures should be taken as the public economy is difficult due to the overall price hike.

<이재명 / 더불어민주당 대표> “There is a high possibility that the economy as a whole will fall into a serious recession, as well as a sharp decline in consumption. Let’s make sure that such a situation where even shovel can’t prevent a situation that can be prevented with a hoe will not recur.”

In addition, he did not give up his insistence that he should find a way for super-giant companies to participate in overcoming the crisis, and that they should find a solution, whether it is a windfall tax or a chronic contribution.

Public sentiment boiling over the ‘heating cost bomb’ that flew along with the cold wave, and the opposition parties over countermeasures are expected to continue beyond January to the National Assembly in February.
