No sponsors, no broadcasts, no players? The new FIFA Club World Cup is…

The much-discussed tournament will take place in the USA next summer – but many questions still remain unanswered.

The brand new Club World Cup will take place in the USA in just nine months. That’s not long away – but no one currently knows how exactly it will happen. The tournament, which was previously held annually, has been revised and expanded to 32 clubs – that much is clear. But otherwise there are currently more questions than answers about the Club World Cup.

There was an answer at the weekend – and it concerned the tournament venues: kicking is taking place in Atlanta, Charlotte, Cincinnati, Los Angeles, Miami, Nashville, Philadelphia, Seattle, Washington and Orlando. The final will take place on July 13th in New Jersey. But FIFA continues to have difficulties concluding a TV contract and finding sponsors for the redesigned tournament, which it has been promoting for a long time.

Players’ concerns about the stress of the additional number of games coincide with fans’ interest in seeing the world’s top clubs in the ever-growing US soccer market. It will be a major event – but one that faces an uncertain future even before the first event takes place in summer 2025.
