Hyderabad: TRS has responded to Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, who is angry over the non-display of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s picture in ration shops. They responded by putting a smiling picture of Modi on the gas cylinders and writing the price as `1105.
Nirmala Sitharaman had come to Saheerabad constituency to participate in BJP’s program. Meanwhile, they reached Nyaya Vila shop. District Collector Kama Reddy was also present. Rice sold for Rs 35 outside is distributed here for Rs 1. The Union Minister asked the District Collector whether he knows how much the state government’s share is. When the collector might not answer, the angry minister demanded that he get an answer within the next 30 minutes. The Center spends Rs 30 on rice worth Rs 35, which is sold at Rs 1. Nirmala Sitharaman pointed out that the state government spends only Rs.
When the incident became controversial, the ruling party TRS organized the protest in a different way. The image of a gas cylinder bearing Modi’s image being loaded onto a goods auto was shared by the head of the TRS social media department on Twitter.
Telangana Health Minister T. Harish Rao said that the Finance Minister is lowering the status of the Prime Minister by insisting that Modi’s picture should be included even in the ration shop. “The Center is demanding Modi’s picture while distributing free ration. Telangana is one of the highest revenue generating states for the country. So shouldn’t the Telangana Chief Minister’s picture be placed in other states?”- he asked.
Telangana Finance Minister Harish Rao said Nirmala Sitharaman’s argument is wrong. Only 50–55 per cent is provided by the Centre. The remaining 45 percent is borne by the state by providing 10 kg of rice for free. He said that 3,610 crores are being spent every month for this purpose.
