(Archyde.com, United Nations Headquarters, New York, 10th) World Health Organization (WHO) Secretary-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus told the United Nations Security Council today that a child is killed every 10 minutes on average in the Gaza Strip, and warned that “there is no place where “No one is safe.”

Tedros said that half of the 36 hospitals and two-thirds of the primary medical centers in the Gaza Strip are not operating, and the hospitals that are still operating are far beyond their capacity, describing the local medical system as “already paralysis”.

“Hospital corridors are crowded with the wounded, the sick and the dying,” Tedros told the 15-member U.N. Security Council. “Morgues are full. Operations are performed without anesthesia. Thousands of displaced people are in hospitals. Take refuge.”

On October 7, the Palestinian armed group Hamas carried out a cross-border raid in southern Israel. After Israel said that Hamas killed regarding 1,200 people and took more than 240 people as hostages, Israel vowed to annihilate Hamas, which governs the Gaza corridor. . Israel has launched airstrikes, a siege and a ground invasion of Gaza, a city of 2.3 million people.

“On average, a child dies every 10 minutes in Gaza,” Tedros said.

Tedros pointed out that since October 7, WHO has verified more than 250 attacks on medical institutions in Gaza and the West Bank, and 25 attacks on medical institutions in Israel. Israel says Hamas hid weapons in tunnels under the hospital, which Hamas denies.

Tedros recalled growing up during the Ethiopian civil war and said he understood what the children in Gaza must be going through.

He said: “The sound of gunfire whizzing through the air, the smell of smoke following the gunfire was fired, the tracer bullets in the night sky, fear, pain and loss, these things have been with me throughout my life.” Central News Agency (translation)
