Now refocused exclusively on business jets, Bombardier has no intention of embarking on the design of new aircraft in this sector.
This was stated by Éric Martel, president and CEO of the Quebec company, during a press conference call.
“We continue to do research and development. (…) We are working on different technologies that will be better for the environment, in particular,” explained Mr. Martel. “We have a team that is wondering regarding the future of our market, but at the moment we are in no rush to launch new aircraft,” he continued.
Bombardier presented results this morning which were well received by the markets. For the last quarter of 2021, the multinational recorded a turnover of 1.7 billion US dollars, and a net profit of 237 million US $.
The company’s stock thus started the day higher, before losing 1% later in the morning.
By 2023, Bombardier wants to increase the delivery rate of the various aircraft in its range. This might mean hiring 1,000 workers around the world, including 300 in Quebec, said Éric Martel.
For the moment, the company’s order book is well stocked, management said. Total orders amount to US$12.2 billion. More than 120 aircraft are expected to be delivered in 2022, and nearly 140 in 2023.
Asked whether the good results of the last quarter would translate into bonuses for senior management, Éric Martel remained evasive on the subject, contenting himself with saying that this information will be available in March.
