The announcement of the large numbers of Corona infections in China, coinciding with the holiday season in Lebanon, led to a restoration of previous scenarios of an epidemic outbreak, in light of disastrous health and living conditions. Will the beginning of 2023 be similar to that of 2020?
A member of the Parliamentary Health Committee and the Scientific Committee for Combating Corona, Dr. Abd al-Rahman al-Bizri, confirmed in an interview with “Hadath Online” that “there is no need for exaggerated concern, but rather the important thing is to be careful and continue to monitor and remain prepared to face all possibilities.”
Dr. Al-Bizri stressed the need to continue monitoring the epidemiological reality during the next month, especially since 700,000 people had arrived in Lebanon at the end of last year: if the increase in infections was not significant, then this means that we have passed the holiday stage “safely.”
And Dr. Al-Bizri reassured that “there is no direct flight between Beirut and Beijing, and therefore, it is assumed that the arrivals from China have conducted the necessary checks before their arrival in Lebanon, in addition to that the community immunity in Lebanon has reached nearly 90%, whether through direct infection.” with the virus, or vaccination, denying that the vaccine has completely lost its effectiveness.
Dr. Al-Bizri explained this by saying: “It is true that the antibodies contained in the vaccine may lose some of their effectiveness with time, but human immunity has something like a memory that allows for rapid dealing with any virus that the body has previously been infected with. So if you get injured, it will be much weaker.”
If the Lebanese are unwilling to repeat the previous black scenario, they are certainly not ready, economically or psychologically, to bear any new measures, so will the “breaking off” of the holidays pass peacefully? Let’s wait and see.
