No need to line up in front of pumps; Sri Lankan government tells people not to have petrol

New Delhi: The Sri Lankan government has said that petrol is not available in the country and people should not line up in front of pumps. The Sri Lankan interim government has said it does not have enough foreign exchange to buy petrol. There is a stockpile of diesel in the country. However, the remaining petrol has been earmarked for essential services, including ambulances, officials said.

There is a ship on the shore with petrol. But Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekera told parliament that he did not have the foreign exchange needed to buy it. He added that he hopes to make a decision on the ship today or tomorrow. Petrol has already borrowed $ 53 million from the same supplier. The Times of India reported on Wednesday that he had informed Parliament that negotiations were underway for the World Bank’s $ 160 million for social work.

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe had yesterday said that the economic situation in the country was at a critical juncture. The coming months will be the most difficult months of our lives. Vikramasinghe had come on the scene yesterday urging everyone to be ready to make sacrifices and home breaks. He said the country would have a power outage of 15 hours a day.
