No mortuary picture, only mortuary tablets… Tribute to Suwon’s mother-in-law’s funeral

Suwon city support because the deceased gave up taking over the body… Condolences “I’m so sorry”

A mortuary was prepared on the 24th for the ‘Suwon three mothers and daughters’ who passed away without receiving help from welfare services despite fighting the disease and living hardships.

At around 5 pm that day, in the funeral home of Suwon Central Hospital in Suwon, Gyeonggi-do, there was no picture of the portrait that was usually placed there.

On the podium were only three mortuary tablets with the names of A woman in her 60s and her two daughters in their 40s.

An official from Suwon City, who conducts the funeral of Mr. A’s family, explained that it was because there were no relatives or acquaintances to deliver their photos.

City officials, etc., were seated and kept their seats at the sangju seat at the entrance to the mortuary.

The funeral of Mr. A’s family will be held as a public funeral supported by society for the deceased and the deceased.

Suwon City made this decision when a known person, who is known as a distant relative of Mr. A’s family, gave up taking over the body and they became unrelated.

A Suwon city official said, “Usually, in the case of an unrelated person, the funeral is held in the city for a day for public mourning. I hope it will provide some comfort to the deceased,” he said.

On this day, the first day of the funeral, the mortuary was generally quiet, but as night fell, citizens’ mourners occasionally came.

The mourners might not hide their regret at the story of these families who, following leaving their son and husband who were ill two years ago, and their two daughters, passed away one day at a time.

Jimo (31), an office worker from Gwangjin-gu, Seoul, said, “I was very sorry that the deceased had to die for economic reasons, so I went to the mortuary.” .

“A similar social problem is repeating itself every time,” he said.

An elderly couple who visited the mortuary at the same time also said, “I live nearby, and I came here following hearing the news that a mortuary was opened.”

Political figures such as Park Yong-jin, candidate for party leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, and Yeom Tae-young, Deputy Governor of Economy in Gyeonggi-do, also followed.

Candidate Yong-jin Park said, “As a politician, I feel guilty as a politician because this incident seems to have once more revealed how weak our social welfare system, which I believed would have changed since the Songpa Three Mother and Daughter Incident,” have to go,” he said.

Yeom Tae-young, Gyeonggi Deputy Governor of Economy, said, “It is a tragic incident that reveals the inadequacy of our society’s welfare and safety net.

A memorial service will be held at 2 pm on the 25th at the Gyeongin Diocese of Won Buddhism.

After the funeral on the morning of the 26th, the next day, the city will be cremated at 1 pm at the lotus house in Suwon, and the ashes will be enshrined in the bonandam inside the lotus house.

A’s family was found dead at 2:50 pm on the 21st in a multi-family house in Gwonseon-gu, Suwon-si.

A was diagnosed with cancer and was being treated, and her two daughters also suffered from rare and incurable diseases, and it was found that it was economically difficult to the extent that she wrote in her will, “Life was difficult due to chronic illness and debt.”

However, when they moved from Hwaseong-si to their current residence in Suwon-si in February 2020, they did not report moving in, so neither Hwaseong-si nor Suwon-si did not know their whereregardings.

As a result, welfare services such as emergency livelihood support expenses, medical expenses support benefits, and basic livelihood support were not provided to them.

The police requested an autopsy of the body from the National Institute of Forensic Sciences to determine the exact cause of death of Mr. A’s family. Is in progress.

On the other hand, when the death of Mr. A’s family became known, the government held a ‘professional meeting related to the excavation of blind spots in welfare’ on the same day, and if it was not possible to identify the whereregardings of the household in crisis, it would be similar to a missing or runaway person, and how to find out the whereregardings with the help of the police. We are reviewing the social safety net.

Each local government in the province also established a ‘High-Risk Household Investigation Task Force (TF)’ in Hwaseong City, which was the address of Mr. A’s family, and conducted a full investigation on households registered as ‘not eligible’ for welfare services due to unknown residences, etc. Follow-up measures are being taken.
