VW prefers to install scarce parts in cars of very expensive group brands. This has consequences for other subsidiaries – and for their customers.
Skoda can only deliver new electric cars in 2024: almost all production for 2023 is already sold out. This is reported by the “Automobilwoche” from dealer circles.
“Anyone who orders an e-car from Skoda today must expect a delivery date in the middle of 2024,” says Thomas Peckruhn, Chairman of the Skoda Dealer Association, the trade journal.
Skoda does not want to confirm this information. Delivery promises would depend on the order quotas of the dealers – whoever orders the most cars therefore also has the best chances. There are also still chances of a new electric car in 2023.
Dealers are already using quotas for 2023
However, retailers disagree: because the order quotas are very tight, they must already use their order quotas for 2023. And the production and delivery dates for cars from these quotas would be in the second half of 2024.
In addition, if you already have to tap into the quota for 2023, you will be able to take fewer orders in the coming year. This does not solve the problem, it merely postpones it.
Like the entire industry, the VW brands are struggling with delivery problems, especially with microchips and wiring harnesses. However, not all group brands are equally affected: “A look at the registration numbers gives the impression that the premium brands in the VW group enjoy higher priority,” says Skoda dealer association boss Peckruhn.
“The losses with the volume brands are much larger than with other brands.” Simple reason: the group earns significantly more from a Porsche than, for example, from a Seat or a Skoda. Therefore, the luxury customers have to wait much less long.
