Since Monday morning, the airport has been the prey of major disturbances generated by the walkout of the staff of the company Security Masters, which usually ensures passenger screening operations. Since then, the agents of the Protection Unit company have been trying somehow to make up for the absentees. However, they were unable to prevent a congestion of the control lines and, consequently, a saturation of the terminal with the key images of jostling at the entrance to the terminal and many passengers arriving too late to board their flight.
Ready to reopen tomorrow
If the airport closes at 4 p.m. on Monday, it will however be ready to reopen on Tuesday morning, said Philippe Verdonck. At the root of the dissatisfaction of Security Masters staff is the decision of BSCA Security managers to split security lot 1 (passenger screening) between two service providers and to recently launch a call for tenders in this regard. The management of BSCA Security justifies this option by the desire to find continuity in the service, a continuity that is difficult, according to it, to achieve with a single operator.
For several weeks, the personnel of Security Masters, directly concerned, have been opposed to this splitting of the batch, seeing it as a competition which might weigh on the working conditions and remuneration of the workers and introduce, if necessary, differences processing between the staff of the two expected service providers.
